This warm cinnamon Gala apple crisp is a comforting dessert that combines tender baked apples with a crispy oat topping. Perfect for autumn evenings or any time you crave a sweet, homey treat.
Ingredients:
- 4 large Gala apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
For the topping:
- 3/4 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, cold and cubed
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a baking dish.
- In a large bowl, toss the sliced Gala apples with lemon juice, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and cornstarch until evenly coated. Spread the apple mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
- In another bowl, combine the rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add the cold butter cubes and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the apples.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown and crisp. Allow the crisp to cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy warm, optionally topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
