Shepherd’s Pie Recipe
A comforting classic combining savory ground lamb or beef, vegetables, and a mashed potato topping baked until golden.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground lamb or beef
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 carrots, diced
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 cup beef broth
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 lbs potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1/2 cup milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Boil potatoes until tender; drain, then mash with butter and milk. Season with salt and pepper.
- In a skillet over medium heat, sauté onion and garlic until soft. Add ground meat and cook until browned.
- Stir in carrots and cook for a few minutes. Add tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, beef broth, and peas; simmer until thickened. Season to taste.
- Spread the meat mixture into a baking dish and top with the mashed potatoes, using a fork to create ridges on the surface.
- Bake for 20‑25 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
- Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
