Caramelized Gala Apple Tart
This caramelized Gala apple tart is a decadent dessert featuring tender apple slices coated in buttery caramel, baked atop a flaky puff pastry crust. Perfect for impressing guests or treating yourself.
Ingredients:
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 3 large Gala apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- Optional: powdered sugar for dusting, whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for serving
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Unroll the puff pastry sheet onto the prepared baking sheet and lightly score a border about 1 inch from the edge. Prick the interior with a fork.
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add granulated sugar and cook until it dissolves and begins to turn golden, stirring occasionally.
- Stir in cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and a pinch of salt. Add the sliced Gala apples and cook for 3–4 minutes, coating them in the caramel until slightly softened.
- Arrange the caramelized apple slices evenly over the puff pastry within the scored border. Pour any remaining caramel sauce over the apples.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes until the pastry is golden brown and the apples are tender.
- Let the tart cool slightly, dust with powdered sugar if desired, and serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream.
